Notes from Tuesday Night

Notes for all:
Hold for laughs and applause
Go back to script to clarify
If you walk in a circle, walk in a circle with purpose, justify all your blocking
Hold focus and do not move after freezing
Must listen to band and follow (when in doubt follow Mr. Barnes and Chris)
Minimize backstage movement
Couples lean in to each other on little things before kiss
NO talking backstage
Stagger!
Choir should be on "ooooo" and quieter
RAISE THE STAKES and COMMIT
Everyone be clear about holding imaginary plate (flat hands)
Energy should be present on faces in Side By Side (think about communicating to Bobby how awesome marriage is, even if it might be a lie you are telling it very convincingly)
Fake anything you are uncertain about and SELL IT

Men: think about the words in Have I Got a Girl
Women: look at Bobby as entering for Someone is Waiting
-solidify your poses so that they are statuesque and pretty Barbie poses rather than weird

Lynn - run across down stage to catch taxi
Shumani - stop playing with dress
Sam - storytelling tone should be different than arguing tone
-don't drink bourbon out of glass you poured for Bobby the first time
Andi - chew brownie after you snatch it
-wanting to do karate is working
Chris - laugh more with Miles
Miles - stay in scene and continue to listen, pay attention to light

Truett & Miles - you can't see the women at all
Lynn - you are present and good stylistically in Drive a Person Crazy
Hailey - look interested and excited rather than scared on entrance
Chris - "what party?" didn't read last night
Nickey - fix bowtie before coming on stage
Fiona - line should be "AND I EVEN blew the toast"
Chris & Fiona - Helen is married now and has become FAT (not reading now)
Fiona - change of heart at the end when you realize you are going to go get married

Sophia - don't block the bobby machine by looking down it
Miles - clarify box steps or at least sell it if you can't get it
Zofia - amp up flight attendant gestures more
-must open mouth to talk before Chris cuts you off
-have shoes in your hand so he can tell you to put your things down
Andi & Truett - grossed out by Zofia more in Poor Baby
Katie - Ignore Ryan while dancing, Clarence shouldn't be the one getting him out
Ryan & Katie - real reactions in bar please, no burying face
Sophia - make sure i can hear ends of phrases in your song ("wishing it would pass")
-great job giving song somewhere to go
          -thanks for active listening
Clarence - use your line, "I wish you could see..." to make a point to Joanne

I'm going to really taper off my note giving after this so please really try to incorporate all of this things. Commit to everything fully with energy and really listen to each other.

Go is at 4:00pm today. Please stay afterwards to check in.

Costume Notes 4/22 First Dress Rehearsal

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or problems with your costume! Becca(503)505-2522
Everybody: make sure to remove all personal jewelry! This includes nose piercings, hair ties around your wrist, Hunger Games premier bracelets, etc etc. Please remove any Goodwill or other tags from costume pieces and make sure EVERY PIECE is labeled with your name on tape.
All boys: Make sure you have tall, dressy socks (like what your dad would wear to the office) that cover your ankles when your pants ride up!! Athletic socks do not work.
All girls: make sure you have a pair of nude/skin tone hose/nylons to wear in all scenes! Make sure if you're wearing nail polish that it is natural/neutral and not bright/neon.
Chris: Make sure you tuck your undershirt into your pants, the back part was sticking out.
Ryan: Your shoes need to match your belt. Get black shoes or a brown belt or tell me if I need to find you some.
Katina: Let's try your costume without the necklace, it's too 50's and doesn't go with the rest of the show.
Hunter: I was told you were bringing in your own shoes?? Try to have them by tomorrow or let me know if I need to find you some.
Shumani: do you have a slip you could wear under your dress?
Clarence: do you have a black belt you can bring in? Let me know if not and I'll get you one.
Andi: do you have a higher cut and less sheer black tank top to wear under your dress?
Fiona: because you have open toe shoes, could you paint your toenails a light/neutral pinkish color? For the wedding scene, take off your green bracelets and put on your pearl necklace.
Truett: Your dress is too bunched above the belt, pull some of the fabric through so it's less balloon-y.
Hailey:  Black tank top instead of the grey one please. Cut off or make sure the plastic hanger thing-ys aren't showing.
Cosi: different shoes, please. Do you have any ballet flats?
Sophia: check your belt before you come on stage so it's not twisted/ with the buckle off to one side.
I think that's everything! Please let me know sooner rather than later if you're having a problem with your costume. -Becca

Parent Volunteers Needed!

The production of this show needs more volunteers.  Lincoln Drama Productions are parent and volunteer supported.  Please go to www.mysignup.com/lhsdramavolunteers and choose an activity to support your student and their production.

If you have a student in the production, please take the time to help out.

No one has offered to run concessions and Jim and I can do it but it would be a huge help if some people can volunteer so we can be responsible in other areas.

Bring Costume Pieces Monday, Notes from 4/13

See the blog entry below about costume pieces to figure out what you might need to bring to rehearsal on Monday when we put all of the costumes together.

The following are the notes I had for everybody.

NOTES for all from 4/13:
ACT I
Opening:
Your backs are to some of the audience all the time so you must be LOUD!
Anticipate 1st entrance so you land on the beep ready to start talking
Move to pantomime with partners right away on "Bobby Babies"
Stop motions on "we love you"
Set tone of character w/ every word you say & sing
Straight out and sing on "phone rings, door chimes..."
Pose at edge of stage before fully exiting

Karate & Little Things:
Bar needs to be located off stage
More non-verbals
Interactions were fun!

Drive a Person Crazy:
Girls hit strong pose and freeze before exit

Bobby Babies & Have I Got a Girl:
Girls peel off and exit (meaning you turn around (should look like a pinwheel shape)
Guys- good job working with the piano on this one, more drunken interaction/playing

Someone Is Waiting:
Needs work, go over switches
Need creepy facial expressions and girls to creepily follow Bobby w/ body when he is near

Getting Married:
Just stay tight as a couple and forget arms when moving to next position
Melt into poses rather than snap into them

Marry Me a Little:
Couples enter very slowly!
Glacial slow coming forward on "I'm ready"

ACT II
Opening of act:
Cut exit before Side by Side (stay in NW corner and clump together)

Side by Side:
Move to box from NW corner on same line you used to enter on
Look at your couple counterpart on "We're so crazy"
Need to figure out exactly who is moving what block to what location of platform
Grapevine should not be super speed legs, you can half time it

Poor Baby & Have I Got a Girl Reprise:
There is no acting in this number right now. Please change. Thx.
Thanks Shumani and Fiona for big gestures/facial expressions on "dumb/tacky/etc."
Men, excited energy and exit right on second time you say "Ooo boy"to opposite side

End of Show:
Don't forget to move to side of stage and watch Bobby intently during Being Alive
Stand when you have a line and come in a bit
Don't forget waiting poses and hiding at the end

Chins up so I can see your face
Bring the energy so others bring it too
Louder!!! and make sure you enunciate all words and hit final consonants
Great job getting through everything and really interacting. Keep going!

Friday the 13th Rehearsal 10am-1pm

Hey everyone,
Please don't forget to reserve the three hours from 10am to 1pm Friday the 13th for a stumble through of the whole show. I expect everyone to be completely off-book (this includes all music folks).

Today, Wednesday is Sitz Probe and rehearsal will be conducted in the band room with the pit.

Thursday we will be fixing some trouble spots as well as clarifying spots that need finishing touches. At 4pm we will be rehearsing the karate scene including "Little Things". After that we will move on to the ends of the acts and the transition from "Poor Baby" to "Have I Got A Girl" into "Barcelona". I aim to get to rehearsing "Another Hundred People" with the scenes with the girlfriends as well as the stoned scene with David and Jenny.

I am not planning on letting anyone go early as there is certainly work you could be doing for the show and there is always a chance we might need any given person for a scene, scene change, etc. Also, it is clear to me that everyone could be working on memorization, music, and choreography.

Next week is the LAST WEEK we have to really put together the show. After that week everything is about adding the technical elements of lights, costumes, set, props, band, etc.

Thanks for all the hard work. It's been exciting to see everything really start to come together.

Meredith

Dear Company Parents,

The online signup for Company volunteers is looking very empty.  Can you please take a look at the volunteer opportunities and choose a spot this week.

The sign up can be found on www.mysignup.com/lhsdramavolunteers

I am trying to avoid a barrage of email requests to you by putting the sign-up sheet on the web.  If this doesn’t work for you, please let me know.

We also encourage everyone to register with the google group for theatre related information.  Please send a membership request to Lincoln-drama-volunteers@googlegroups.com

Many thanks,

More Costume Stuff

All the guys need to bring in their own belts (thick width, brown or black leather) and ankle-covering socks (brown or black, matching shoe color). Please make sure that anything that belongs to you gets labeled with fabric tape with your full name and the word "personal" so we know to get it back to you at the end of the show. Talk to Becca or Sandy if you have any questions about your costume.

Budget Cuts Affect the Arts

I am asking ALL Company cast (and as many crew members as possible) to make the trip over to the district meeting at Cleveland High School today at 5pm to be a presence for the arts. With all of the budget cuts going on in the district we need to make sure that we fight to keep activities like theatre, band, music, and the graphic and visual arts in the Portland Public Schools.

I think it is appropriate that our talented cast and crew of musical and theatrical students make a statement by walking out of our rehearsal today at 4:30 in order to attend this meeting and be heard.
